In a proactive step to ensure a peaceful environment ahead of the bye-election to the 28-Koridang Assembly Constituency, the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, has issued an order mandating physical verification of all licensed firearms and ammunition in the district.

Invoking Section 21 of the Arms Act, 1959, the Deputy Commissioner has directed all arms licence holders in Mokokchung district to report to their nearest concerned police station for verification. License holders are required to present their firearms, ammunition, and licence booklets for physical verification during office hours.

The deadline for compliance has been set for March 20, 2026.

To ensure effective monitoring of the process, Officers-in-Charge of the respective police stations have been instructed to submit daily reports in a prescribed format through the Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung. The reports will include details such as serial number, name of the licence holder, licence number, UIN number, type and number of arms, date of last renewal, and quantity of ammunition available.

The order forms part of precautionary measures being undertaken by the district administration to maintain law and order during the election period.
