Mokokchung, February 2 (MTNews): Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh IAS has in a notification, in pursuance of a Supreme Court order, issued a set of directives to be enforced for strict adherence during the forthcoming school examination as per the provisions of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.

 

According to the notification, the noise level at the boundary of the public place, where loudspeaker or public address system or any other noise is being used shall not exceed 10dB(A) above the ambient noise standards for the area or 75dB(A) whichever is lower.

 

It was also informed that no one shall beat a drum or tom-tom or blow a trumpet or beat or sound any instrument or use any sound amplifier at night (between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM) except in public emergencies.

 

Further, it was informed that the “peripheral noise level of privately owned sound systems shall not exceed by more than 5 dB(A) than the ambient air-quality standard specified for the area in which it is used at the boundary of the private place.”

 

In industrial areas, it was informed that the permissible limit is 75dB for daytime and 70 dB at night. In the commercial areas, it is 65 dB and 55dB, while in residential areas it is 55dB and 45dB during daytime and night respectively.
