Commenting on the deteriorating law and order situation in Mokokchung District in recent days, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh regretted that the untoward incident in Chungtia happened despite deploying adequate security personnel to all the villages that are suspected to have volatile situation.
However, he said that security measures are being taken to contain the situation.

 

“But now the situation is under control, is quite normal and we have imposed section 144 CrPc in Koridang Assembly Constituency from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am. So, assembly of more than 5 people is prohibited and non-essential movement has also been prohibited from today,” he said.

 

Responding to why the law and order continues to deteriorate in the district despite security forces being deployed, he said, “To ensure free, fair and peaceful elections, though we have tried our best, we need support and cooperation from each and every one. So, there is something missing… in this unfortunate incident,” he said.

 

“Through your print media, I would like to request again to each and every one to ensure fair play and not to resort to any threat, intimidation or violence. In liberal democracy, there is no space for threat or intimidation. We should not resort to violence,” he appealed.

 

Meeting of all candidates from 24 Angetyongpang AC convened

 

He further informed that they are getting complaints every day from Mongsenyimti and, therefore, has advised the RO to call all the three candidates from 24 Angetyongpang Assembly Constituency to report at his office tomorrow (February 24).

 

“I think there is some sort of communication gap or some sort of mistrust between the three candidates and tomorrow we have convened a coordination meeting,” he said, adding that they would like to intervene and try to build the trust between all the three candidates so that there shall be a peaceful election in the 24 Angetyongpang AC.

 

According to a reliable source, additional 32 companies of Central Armed Police Forces and the state armed police are scheduled to arrive in the district while some have already arrived.
