Lumami, November 25 (MTNews): The Department of Geography, Nagaland University Lumami conducted a one-day Workshop today commemorating its 25 years of existence (1997-2022).
The workshop entitled “GIS Day” was inaugurated by Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik Vice-Chancellor, Nagaland University as the Chief Patron. Prof. Sangyu Yaden gave a brief history about the department. He stated that currently the department has 7 Teaching faculty members with four Professors, two Assistant Professors and one Guest Faculty.
At the inaugural session, Chubawati Longchar from the Nagaland GIS and Remote Sensing Centre (NGISRSC) also spoke on the topic “Space Based Information Applications and Activities in Nagaland” where the recent research work in Nagaland was presented.
The chief patron Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik in his speech applauded the hard work and service rendered by the professors for the upliftment of the Department and congratulated the department on completing its 25 years. He further encouraged the department to collaborate for more projects.
In the second session, Dr C Furkumzuk and Er Atho Kesiezie from NGISRSC deliberated on the application of UAV titled “UAV display and drone survey of NU Lumami Campus.” There was a hands-on demonstration of UAV after the session.
The workshop was organized by the Department of Geography with Prof. Wangshimenla as Coordinator and Dr. Kedovikho Yhoshü as Organizing Secretary. Altogether 95 participants participated in the Workshop.
The Department has produced 402 Post Graduates from 22 batches. 65 Ph.D research Scholars are registered out of which 33 scholars have been awarded Ph.D. Over the years the Department has produced multiple personalities, including Pro-VC, Registrar, Controller of Examination, Dean of Student Welfare, IQAC Director, Dean of Sciences etc., and students have also been placed in different work avenues.
