Mokokchung, November 24 (MTNews): Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton has said that a police case has been registered and investigation into the recent incident at Lamhai Namdi already started, wherein two personnel of Nagaland Armed Police lost their lives due to firing by fellow personnel. Patton assured that thorough enquiry will be conducted to determine the circumstances and other relevant facts so that befitting punishment is handed to the guilty as per law.

 

Expressing deep pain and concern at the unfortunate incident, the Deputy CM extended condolences to the bereaved families of the two jawans and announced ex-gratia payment of two lakh rupees each to their next of kin. Further, Patton noted that the police headquarters has been directed to send a proposal to the government for appointing the next of kin of the two deceased in the police department on compassionate ground at the earliest.
Patton also urged the police department to initiate corrective measures for ensuring that no such untoward incident occurs in the future.

 

It may be mentioned that a personnel of the Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) Rangers posted at Lamhai Namdi village area near Jalukie shot dead two of his colleagues with a service weapon on Tuesday evening at around 8:30 PM.

 

The deceased were identified as Lance Naik T Zewangba Yim (35) of NAP Rangers and constable Kevisekho Khate (34) of 10th NAP India Reserve Battalion ‘A’ Company. The accused, Zenise Yhoshu of MT Platoon of NAP Rangers, was arrested and taken into police custody and an FIR lodged at Jalukie PS.

 

Police sources said that the accused fired 13 rounds from an INSAS rifle. The victims, who were rushed to Community Health Centre (CHC) Jalukie, were declared brought dead. Sources said that during the medical examination conducted at CHC Jalukie, the accused was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
