A “Retail Skill Management Centre,” set up by the Department of Commerce, was launched on 20th April 2026 at the Commerce Block. In a short address, Biswajit Sarkar (Convenor of the RSMC) emphasized the importance of acquiring skills alongside basic academic knowledge. He gave a clarion call to the students to seize this opportunity to learn, experiment, and innovate.

Dimapur Government College bridges

In a brief exhortation, T. George Kire (HOD) outlined that all students should learn financial accounting and business management practically while pursuing their academic endeavors.

The inaugural program was graced by the presence of Temjensoba Imsong, Addl. P.S. to the Minister of Higher Education, Govt. of Nagaland. He highlighted that in an era where graduates and post-graduates often find themselves at a crossroads regarding employment, the Government is giving high priority to skill development; therefore, everyone should avail themselves of the opportunities provided by the Government to become skilled.

The inaugural speech was delivered by Dr. T. Tiakaba Jamir (Principal, Dimapur Govt. College), who acknowledged the initiative of the Commerce Department in establishing this promising Centre. He categorically mentioned that skilling is now being prioritized and encouraged by the Government and is a key objective of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He added that digital marketing is the need of the hour and encouraged everyone to upgrade their skills accordingly.

Following the speeches, the Centre was officially inaugurated in the presence of faculty members and students with great pomp and gaiety.
