A one-day National Seminar (hybrid mode) on the theme ‘Sustainable Rural Development, Climate Change, and Food Security’ was organized by the Research and Development Cell, Dimapur Government College, sponsored by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), and supported by the IQAC, Dimapur Government College. The seminar was held on 31 January 2025 at the Seminar Hall, Dimapur Government College.
The inaugural program was chaired by Dr Yelhi Vero, Convenor, RDC & Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, DGC. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Sanjay Sharma, Principal, DGC.
Sarat Kumar Behera, AGM, NABARD Dimapur, highlighted NABARD’s functioning across the 28 Indian states. He also discussed NABARD’s activities in Nagaland, where it operates in three districts, with the Dimapur branch covering the remaining districts. NABARD is involved in rural development, spring rejuvenation in partnership with NGOs, tribal development projects, addressing climate change, promoting food security, and supporting startups in the development of technologies benefiting farmers.
The theme was introduced by Dr Bonti Gogoi, Agronomy Specialist, KVK Nagaon, Assam, who spoke on the topic ‘Conservation of Agriculture for Rural Development and Climate Change in NER of India.’
The first technical session was chaired by Dr Herali Achumi, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, DGC, with Dr. Rudra Narayan Bokakati, Scientist (Entomology), AICRP on Rapeseed and Mustard, AAU-Zonal Research Station, Shillongani, Assam Agricultural University, Nagaon, delivering an online talk on ‘Eco-Friendly Approaches to a Sustainable and Greener Future.’ A parallel offline session was chaired by Dr A Sentiyula, Associate Professor & Head, Department of English, DGC, where 14 research interns from various departments of DGC, along with their supervisors, presented papers.
The second technical session was chaired by Sedevino, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Political Science, DGC, with Dr N Khumdemo Ezung, Chief Technical Officer, KVK, Wokha, as the resource person. He spoke on ‘Organic Farming for Sustainable Agricultural Development and Food Security.’
A total of 102 participants, including faculty members, students, and research scholars from DGC, attended the seminar offline, while 9 participants joined online.
