Dimapur, 2 October (MTNews): The Middle Point Council, Dimapur in collaboration with local youths as part of the Joint Colony Councils initiative and as responsible citizens, has been actively addressing the issue of illegal garbage dumping along the roadside, spanning from Clock Tower to Holy Cross police point, for the past two weeks in their concerted effort to curb the problem.
Recent incidents involving improper waste disposal by irresponsible individuals and businesses have raised concerns within the Council and the youth community. Recognizing the urgency of addressing this issue, the Middle Point Council has implemented a series of measures aimed at raising awareness and enforcing strict penalties against those found guilty of illegal garbage disposal, in accordance with directives from the DMC, as stated in a press release issued by the Council.
D Jonah Achumi, Chairman of Middle Point, emphasized the Council’s commitment to its cleanliness drive and sustainability efforts. He expressed that it is a collective responsibility to ensure that the environment remains free from litter and pollution. Achumi urged business establishments and residents to wholeheartedly support the Council’s efforts and promptly report any incidents of illegal garbage disposal.
To enhance surveillance and deter illegal dumping, the Council has requested certain business establishments to install surveillance cameras in strategic locations around the area.
Through collaborative efforts, the community can work together to create a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable living environment for everyone, the chairman added.
