Dimapur Police has arrested eight persons from Assam, Manipur and West Bengal who were part of an inter-state gang involved in drugging and snatching of vehicles.
A press release from the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur stated that two vehicles were also recovered in the process. According to the release, routine investigation into a missing person FIR lodged at East Police Station unraveled an organized network of criminal gangs operating in Nagaland, Assam, Manipur and West Bengal.
The gang’s modus operandi involved posing as prospective clients to hire inter-state commercial vehicles. Once they gained the trust of the drivers, gang members would befriend them, offer food laced with drugs, and steal the vehicles while the drivers were unconscious. The mastermind behind the operation has been identified as Shymalendu Roy from West Bengal, who coordinated the crimes through his network of inter-state associates.
Based on digital evidence obtained through technical surveillance, authorities arrested two gang members in Manipur, four in Assam, and two in Dimapur. In light of these events, commercial vehicle drivers and owners are urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any instances of missing vehicles or drivers to the police.
