The District Employment Exchange/Model Career Centre Mokokchung visited the Institute of Communication and Information Technology (ICIT) on September 18, 2024, to conduct a Career Talk and an Awareness Session on the National Career Service (NCS) platform. The session aimed to equip students with knowledge on self-reliant career paths and skill development opportunities.
During the event, officials from the District Employment Exchange/Model Career Centre provided an in-depth overview of the National Career Service, its offerings, and how students can benefit from its extensive network of career guidance and job-seeking resources. The highlight of the session was a Career Talk on the theme: “EMPOWERING YOURSELF: Building a Self-Reliant and Skill Development Career.”
Yapang Jamir, a Young Professional from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, was the keynote speaker. He shed light on the reality of government jobs, emphasizing the limited number of openings. He encouraged students to become self-reliant after graduating from ICIT and to explore a wide range of opportunities in technical fields that allow them to enhance their skills.
Jamir highlighted freelancing as a rapidly growing trend in today’s market, offering flexibility and potential for career growth. He motivated students to consider freelancing as a viable career option and to take charge of their own professional journeys.
In closing, he posed a thought-provoking question to the students: “Will you register as a jobseeker with our office, or will you embark on your own journey to success?”
