DNSU condemns arbitrary Assistant Professor appointments in Higher Education Department

The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has strongly condemned the recent arbitrary appointments of Assistant Professors in the Higher Education Department of Nagaland, alleging that the government bypassed the mandated recruitment process through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the DNSU said the appointments represented a “blatant disregard for established procedures” and “undermined the principles of meritocracy, transparency, and fairness in public service recruitment.”

The Union described the move as a “gross violation of the rights of qualified and aspiring Naga youth who have diligently prepared and awaited opportunities through the NPSC.”

It warned that the integrity of the state’s educational institutions would be compromised if appointments were made “based on favoritism and nepotism rather than merit and competence.”

“The DNSU is deeply concerned about the erosion of institutional integrity and the blatant disregard for the established recruitment processes,” it stated. “Such arbitrary appointments not only deny deserving individuals their rightful opportunities but also severely impact the quality of education imparted to our students. The future of our state’s higher education is being jeopardized by these unethical practices.”

In its statement, the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) called for immediate corrective measures in response to the arbitrary appointments in the Higher Education Department.

The Union demanded the immediate cancellation of all appointments made without following the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) recruitment process, emphasizing that such actions must be annulled to uphold the principles of meritocracy.

It further urged the Higher Education Department to strictly adhere to established recruitment procedures through the NPSC for all future appointments, stressing the need to maintain fairness and institutional integrity.

The DNSU also called for complete transparency and accountability in all recruitment processes, insisting that the government must take steps to restore public confidence.

Additionally, the Union demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and appropriate action against those responsible for the irregularities.

Highlighting the broader impact, the DNSU stated that the government must focus on safeguarding the rights of qualified Naga youth, ensuring fair and equitable access to public service opportunities.

The Union warned that failure to address the issue would compel it to “launch further agitations to protect the rights and interests of the student community.”

Reaffirming its stance, the DNSU asserted that it “stands firm in its commitment to ensuring that merit and transparency prevail in the recruitment of educators, thereby safeguarding the future of higher education in Nagaland.”

Strongly criticizing the state of affairs, the DNSU said, ”It is also shocking to note that Naga society has eroded so much that educated individuals willingly participate in such unscrupulous practices, robbing deserving students of a chance to write NPSC. As per the RTI reply, 144 posts have been arbitrarily regularized in the year 2024-25, which is even unthinkable.”

The Union warned that failure to address the issue would compel it to “launch further agitations to protect the rights and interests of the student community,” and announced that it would take democratic forms of protest against such injustice.

The DNSU further appealed to all right-thinking citizens and organizations to speak up against “such blatant injustice.”
