Joint Secretary, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr. Vipul Aggarwal, IPS, and Principal Secretary and Development Commissioner Y Kikheto Sema, IAS, inspected the ongoing construction of the Kohima Multi-disciplinary Sports Centre at the IG Stadium Complex, Kohima, on October 22.

During the inspection, Dr Aggarwal expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that during his previous visit in May 2026, the site was still at the development stage, with little visible construction. He appreciated the progress made over the past five months and commended the Department of Youth Resources and Sports for its efforts. He also acknowledged the role of the Principal Secretary and Development Commissioner in holding regular review meetings and monitoring ongoing projects.
Kikheto assured DoNER that the Planning and Transformation Department would continue to review and monitor all 71 ongoing projects funded by DoNER and the North Eastern Council (NEC) to ensure their timely completion.
He informed that the sports centre project was sanctioned on October 27, 2025, at a total cost of Rs 72.59 crore. Of this amount, Rs 17.62 crore had been released by the Government of India and subsequently disbursed to the contractor.
When asked about the expected completion date, an engineer from the Department of Youth Resources and Sports said the work was progressing as scheduled and was expected to be completed by January 20, 2028, as stipulated in the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
