The Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) held its monthly meeting for July on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall. The meeting was chaired by MLA Nuklutoshi Longkumer, who also serves as the Chairman of the DPDB Mokokchung.
During the review of the previous meeting’s minutes, the board took up the issue of plastic waste management in the district. Officials from the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) briefed the members on the various initiatives undertaken to tackle the growing problem of plastic pollution in the town. The board acknowledged the efforts made and called for continued community involvement to curb plastic usage and improve waste handling systems.
The board also approved the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) schemes for the 2025–2026 period for Mokokchung district. Members appreciated the inclusion of an Iconic Project under the programme and welcomed the allocation of funds towards sports development.
Regarding the construction of a helipad at Tuli Town, the board discussed the pending No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the 2nd NAP Alichen and decided to forward the matter to the concerned authorities for necessary action.
Another key point of discussion was the status of the National Highway 702D, particularly the Mokokchung-Mariani road. The Chairman engaged members of the concerned department in a discussion on the progress of the project and the challenges involved. While the report on the discussion was not disclosed, the issue remains under close observation by the board.
In addition, the board approved and recommended the registration of three societies in the district: AKM Nation Builder’s Society, Mokokchung; Sports Society Soyim, Ungma; and Akhoya Village Bamboo Growers Society.
