The inaugural Dr KC Nihoshe Memorial Open Football Tournament officially kicked off on November 22 at the District Sports Council Ground in Zunheboto. The event, organized by the Trojans Club, honors the late Dr KC Nihoshe, a dedicated supporter of sports, particularly football, an update said.

The ceremony, chaired by Puloto T Awomi, General Secretary of the Trojans Club, commenced with an invocation by Newtoli Chophy, Children Ministry Supervisor. In a heartfelt address, Heto N Yepthomi, son of the late Dr Nihoshe, welcomed attendees and shared that the tournament was established in loving memory of their father. He highlighted the family’s decision to organize and sponsor the event as a tribute to his passion for football.

The presidential address by Hokato Yepthomi emphasized the growing opportunities in football as a career for young athletes. He encouraged players to remain patient and dedicated, stating, ”Today, you may be part of a small club, but with hard work, you can represent not only the district but also the state, the nation, and even compete internationally.”

Rev Kughato Chophy, Executive Secretary of SBAK Nito Mount, dedicated the tournament in a special prayer. The event also included a presentation by Lino N Achumi and an oath-taking ceremony led by Sports Secretary Nikato H Zhimomi. The tournament was officially declared open by Rev Kughato Chophy.

According to the Trojans Club president, the six-day tournament will feature 12 local clubs vying for the coveted trophy. The event is a meaningful step in honoring Dr KC Nihoshe’s legacy while fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and unity in the community.
