Mokokchung, 9 October (MTNews): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced by-polls for the 43-Tapi (ST) constituency to fill the vacancy following the death of MLA Noke Wangnao. The by-polls are scheduled to take place on 7 November 2023. The ECI has also released the dates for polls in five states: Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana.

According to the ECI, the gazette notification is set to be issued on 13 October 2023 with the deadline for nominations on 20 October 2023. Meanwhile, candidates have until 23 October 2023 to withdraw their candidatures.

Furthermore, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced that Mizoram is all set to go to the polls on 7 November. The results of the elections in all five states as well as 43-Tapi by-polls are scheduled to be announced on 3 December and all the electoral process to be completed by 5 December.

Aside from Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh is slated to hold elections on 17 November, Rajasthan on 23 November, Telangana on 30 November, and Chhattisgarh will conduct voting in two phases on 7 and 17 November.

It’s worth noting that Jammu & Kashmir has not been included in this announcement. The ECI has clarified that a decision regarding Assembly polls in Jammu & Kashmir will be made at the appropriate time, taking security considerations into account.
