Tuensang, 27 March (MTNews): Ahead of the crucial public meeting to be held at Tuensang headquarters, the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) has called for a 12-hour “total shutdown” across the region tomorrow, 28 March.

In this regard, the ENPO has urged attendees to the meeting to travel in their private vehicles and refrain from being accompanied by bodyguards.

Invitations have been extended to all 20 members of the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union, as well as Rajya Sabha MP and former Parliamentarians of the 13th NLA from Eastern Nagaland.

Additionally, former ENPO presidents, ENPO advisors, tribal bodies presidents, general secretaries, respective CEC members, among others, too have been invited.

Attendees will also include three executive members and federating unit presidents, former ENGOA, ENWO, and ENSF presidents.

This call for the meeting comes following the 19 March meeting where the Eastern Nagaland Public Meeting reaffirmed their commitment to the Chenmoho Resolution passed on 23 February. This resolution resolved to boycott all electoral processes until their demand for an autonomous body is met, stating, “Not to participate in any Central and State election and all citizens of Eastern Nagaland shall refrain from casting votes.”

It may be mentioned that essential services and departments have been exempted from the purview of the shutdown, including the district administration, police, paramilitary forces, power department, public health engineering department, fire and emergency services, medical emergencies, and the press.

However, amidst this protest, Mon Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma, while chairing the Mon District Planning and Development Board meeting on Wednesday has directed all heads of offices in the district to ensure thorough preparation and effective discharge of their respective duties for the successful conduct of the Lok Sabha election.
