In the interest of maintaining peaceful co-existence within Eastern Nagaland, the Eastern Naga Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) reaffirmed its commitment to declaring the region a peaceful zone. On December 18, 2019, the organization had pledged to declare the ENPO area as a peaceful zone.
It was pledged that “Henceforth, any disputes, misunderstandings within Eastern Nagaland people shall be localized within the parties involved and resolved within the concerned group through peaceful dialogue”.
In line with this commitment, the office of ENPO President Chingmak Chang has called upon the Khiamniungan and Tikhir communities to uphold the same spirit of peace.
“The office of the undersigned reiterates upon the Khiamniungan Brothers and Tikhir Brothers to maintain the same spirit in the greater interest of the Eastern Nagaland till such time an amicable solution is arrived,” the statement read.
Additionally, the ENPO has reminded both communities to provide “amicable spaces to each other in celebration of any social events/festivals at Thonoknyu town” until the matter of landownership in Thonoknyu Town is resolved.
The call for peace was endorsed by L Ngon Khiamniungan, President of the Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC), and P Timong Tikhir, President of the Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC). The statement was witnessed by Chingmak Chang, President of the ENPO.
