A six-day skill development training programme on Eri silk spinning using motorised machines was conducted by the Department of Sericulture, Phek district, at Upper Khomi village under Phek district from May 4 to 9.

The programme, sanctioned under the State Plan for the financial year 2026–2027, aimed to modernise traditional practices and empower local Eri silk rearers and spinners, according to an update from Külüpoyi V. Vadeo, VDB Secretary of Upper Khomi village.
Director of Sericulture Zacivelu Khamo attended the culmination programme and encouraged trainees to adopt Eri silk farming as a sustainable economic activity.
The training was conducted under the supervision of departmental officials including Seliya, Assistant Sericulture Officer, Phek; Sentiyangla and Lachum, Master Spinners; and Atsung, Technician-cum-Trainer. Resource persons provided hands-on training on the operation and maintenance of motorised spinning machines.
Beneficiaries were informed that successful trainees would receive the motorised machines used during the programme. Officials also stated that the machines can operate on both solar energy and electricity.
The department further assured support for silkworm rearing houses, subsidies for eligible farmers, access to subsidised raw materials through the Cocoon Bank in Dimapur, and future market linkage assistance.
