Following senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s acceptance to an invitation to engage in a public debate with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP on Monday deputed its Yuva Morcha Vice President Abhinav Prakash to take on the Congress leader in the proposed public debate instead of PM Modi.

This development comes following the invitation extended by former Editor of ‘The Hindu’ newspaper N Ram, former Supreme Court judge Madan Lokur, and former Delhi High Court Chief Justice A P Shah, urging both leaders to participate in a non-commercial and non-partisan platform.

BJP MP Lok Sabha and national president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Tejasvi Surya turned down the debate invitation, stating that Rahul Gandhi did not have credentials even within the Congress and hence, the Prime Minister had no reason to debate with him.

In a letter addressed to Rahul Gandhi, Surya said, “Dear Rahul Gandhi Ji, BJYM has deputed Abhinav Prakash, National Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha, as a BJYM’s representative for the upcoming debate.”

“We eagerly anticipate your acceptance, setting the stage for what promises to be a historic debate between the scion of a political dynasty which has ruled India for the longest time since independence and a commoner representing the new India of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi,” he added.

Surya also pointed out that Abhinav Prakash is a young and educated leader from the Pasi (SC) community, who are around 30 percent in Rae Baraeli.
