Mokokchung, 5 December (MTNews): In a commendable initiative to recognize and celebrate academic brilliance, the GMS Sungkomen School Management Committee (SMC) conducted the GMS Sungkomen SMC Academic Excellence Award ceremony today at its school premises.
The GMS Sungkomen SMC Academic Excellence Award is an annual event that aims to applaud the academic proficiency of the top-ranked student in each class. The award carries a cash prize and a certificate of merit.
Notably, the seed money for this award is generated through generous contributions from SMC mmbers and teachers, supplemented by various fundraising activities.
It may be noted that the SMC have also contributed a few numbers of desks at the beginning of the year.
During the award ceremony, SMC Chairman Marshilu Pongen handed over the prizes. In a brief speech, the SMC chairman emphasized that teaching is not merely a profession but a noble mission to reform and transform lives. In this parlance, he referred to teachers serving in interior areas as “teaching missionaries,” underscoring the profound impact educators have on shaping the future.
The chairman also highlighted the concept of communitization, emphasizing that when the community fully understands and embraces this concept, contributions and responsibilities naturally follow. Communitization, he stated, is about sharing both responsibilities and authority, fostering a sense of collective ownership for the betterment of education and the community as a whole.
