Mokokchung, July 13 (MTNews): The Gorkha community of Mokokchung on Wednesday celebrated Bhanu Jayanti with much pomp and gaiety at Ongpangkong Salang, Arkong Ward, organized by Gorkha Students’ Union, Mokokchung.
The event commemorates the birth anniversary of Aadakavi Bhanubhakta Acharya, regarded as the founder of Nepali literature and is celebrated by all Gorkhas around the world. This year’s celebration marked the 208th birthday of Aadakavi or ‘the first ever poet’ Bhanubhakta Acharya. It is generally celebrated on 13 July or the 29th day of the Nepali month of Ashadh. Every year Bhanu Jayanti is celebrated as a mega event with literary seminars, and programs.
In Mokokchung, the event was marked literary competitions as well as dances, folk songs and Nepali musical performances amid much cheers.
