NSDMA warns of flooding, landslides and flash floods in vulnerable areas
Nagaland is likely to experience continued rainfall and thunderstorms over the next four days, with some districts expected to receive comparatively heavier rain, according to a weather outlook issued by the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA).
The forecast, covering August 6 to 9, comes amid ongoing monsoon-related flooding, landslides and road damage reported in several parts of the State.
On August 6, localized thunderstorms and lightning with light rain are expected across most districts.
Tseminyu and Zunheboto may receive light to moderate rainfall over a wider area.
Weather activity is expected to intensify on August 7, with Mokokchung, Peren, Wokha and Longleng likely to receive comparatively heavier rainfall. Chümoukedima and Dimapur may also experience light to moderate rain accompanied by localized thunderstorms.
On August 8, Zunheboto is forecast to receive localized thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rainfall, which the NSDMA identified as the most significant rainfall activity expected during the forecast period. Longleng may receive light to moderate rainfall, while Kiphire, Peren, Tseminyu and Tuensang are also likely to experience rain.
Rainfall activity is expected to gradually taper across most districts on August 9, although Wokha and Peren may continue to receive light to moderate rainfall.
In view of the forecast, the NSDMA has advised residents, particularly those in low-lying, foothill and riverine areas, to remain alert to possible flooding, waterlogging, flash floods, landslides, mudslides and falling rocks.
Motorists have been advised to exercise caution while travelling through hilly and landslide-prone stretches, while the public has been urged to avoid crossing swollen streams and waterlogged roads.
The NSDMA has further advised residents to follow official weather forecasts and advisories during the period.
