Mokokchung, 22 May (MTNews): According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), strong south-westerly winds from the Bay of Bengal prevail at lower tropospheric levels and under their influence, Assam and Meghalaya will witness light to moderate, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds during the next five days.

Further, heavy showers (64.5 mm-115.5 mm) are likely over isolated parts of Assam and Meghalaya until Friday (May 26) and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura between Wednesday and Friday (May 24-26).
The IMD has issued a yellow watch across the region for the forecast period so as to urge the locals to be ‘updated’ about the inclement weather.

Meanwhile, May’s rainfall stats indicate that Northeast India has been lagging behind. Between May 1 and 21, Assam and Meghalaya recorded 99.2 mm of rainfall, with a deficit of 51%, while N.M.M.T collectively only saw 62 mm of rain, registering a large deficit of 65%.
