Marks the start of two-year countdown to 50th anniversary of Evergreen Club Nagaland Open Volleyball Tournament

The much-anticipated U-15 Intra-Village Volleyball Tournament 2025, organized by Evergreen Club Ungma, was officially inaugurated on April 14 at Soyim Aonglenden. The tournament marks the beginning of a two-year-long celebration leading to the 50th anniversary of the Evergreen Club Nagaland Open Volleyball Tournament, scheduled for 2026.

In his welcome address, the President of Evergreen Club expressed gratitude to all attendees and emphasized the significance of the event as not just a sporting competition but a movement towards grassroots sports development. “This tournament is more than a competition—it is a platform to nurture future champions,” he said, adding that the event symbolizes the club’s commitment to long-term vision and community engagement.

The special guest, Toshiwapang Imsong, President of Sports Society Soyim, lauded the initiative and spoke passionately about the importance of grooming young athletes. “The journey to excellence begins here. Play with dedication and sincerity, and the future will open its doors,” he encouraged the players.

Imtisungkum Longkumer, Tatar of Ungma Village Council, offered an inspiring exhortation, reminiscing about the early days of Evergreen Club and its landmark contribution to volleyball in the region. “This club has nurtured many great players over the years. Now, it’s your turn to aim higher and shine brighter,” he told the young athletes.

Members of the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association were also present and commended the club for its visionary efforts. They acknowledged Evergreen Club as the strongest among its affiliated clubs and praised the league-based format of the tournament, calling it a pioneering effort in the district and possibly in the state.

The tournament features eight teams, with the opening match played between United Soyim Club and Longtrok Senden. Longtrok Senden secured a comprehensive win, setting the tone for the rest of the tournament. The event is structured as a full-fledged league, culminating in playoffs with the top four teams vying for a spot in the grand finale.

The competition provided free entry for all participating teams and cash prizes for the champions, runners-up, and individual performers.

The tournament is seen as a stepping stone for young athletes aspiring to make a mark in the sport, as well as paying tribute to five decades of Evergreen Club’s dedication to volleyball excellence.
