The Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), Government of Nagaland, and Okusa Toyota Nagaland recently announced the upcoming 26th edition of the Hornbill Music Festival, with Toyota continuing as the presenting partner for the fourth consecutive year.

TaFMA chairman Theja Meru said, “This year’s edition will feature a vibrant lineup of bands and artists from Ireland, Scotland, South Korea, Israel, Nepal, Japan, and India, alongside strong representation from local Naga artists and the winners of Ticket to Hornbill (India’s Biggest Band Battle 2025).”

TaFMA Chairman Theja Meru with Okusa Toyota Nagaland Managing Director Y. Vikheho Swu during the announcement of the 26th Hornbill Music Festival.

Emphasizing the festival’s vision, Meru reiterated that the Hornbill Music Festival is about promoting independent musicians and offering them a stage to shine.

“While we receive many requests to bring in big international acts, our focus remains on local and deserving indie artists who often don’t get access to major stages,” he added.

A major highlight this year will be the return of the world-renowned Japanese drumming ensemble Drum Tao, back by popular demand after last year’s phenomenal success.

The Toyota Hornbill Music Festival 2025 will be held from December 1 to 10, 2025, at Kisama Heritage Village near Kohima.

“We invite everyone from across India and beyond to come and experience the colors, sounds, and spirit of Nagaland. Support our artists,” said Meru.

Y. Vikheho Swu, Managing Director of Okusa Toyota Nagaland, reaffirmed Toyota’s continued support for the festival.

“On behalf of the Toyota family, we thank the Government of Nagaland and TaFMA for the privilege of being part of the Hornbill Music Festival once again. Toyota will also be showcasing a range of its flagship cars during the event,” Swu said.

He also extended gratitude to Toyota Kirloskar and Toyota India for facilitating the return of Drum Tao.

Key Highlights for 2025

Under the vision and direction of the Chief Minister of Nagaland, the 26th edition of the festival will feature several new initiatives:

  • Hornbill Busking: Artists from all 17 districts of Nagaland will perform at the Hornbill Busking Zone, continuing the successful inclusivity model introduced last year.

  • Nagaland Choir Games: The first-ever Nagaland Choir Games will take place on December 8–9, 2025, at the Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima, coordinated through TaFMA’s district partners.

  • Hornbill Music Festival Extension: The festival will expand to six districts, in collaboration with district partners and local hospitality venues.

  • International Collaborations: A special collaboration between South Korean band Mongdoll and Nagaland’s own Trance Effect will be among the highlights, with additional global partnerships to be announced in upcoming press briefings.
