Chuchuyimlang Village, under the initiative of its Village Council, has been taking significant steps to protect the Community Reserve Forest. An area of 200 hectares was notified as a community reserve under the Wildlife Protection Act (WLPA) 1972 in August 2023. The Community Reserve Committee has been working tirelessly to sensitize the local communities about the importance of preserving flora and fauna.

During the Wildlife Week 2024, the citizens reaffirmed a total ban on hunting within the jurisdiction.

According to Putusanen, the Chuchuyimlang Community Reserve Committee Chairman, the Village, under the leadership of Village Council Chairman Aosanen Pongen, has been working hand holding under the ‘Integrated Development of Wildlife Habitat’ scheme with the Wildlife Division, Dimapur. The initiative has led to the creation and installation of various conservation assets, including footpaths and solar lamps, aimed at improving the conservation efforts in the area.

On March 1, the village distributed 800 14-day-old vaccinated chicks (BV-380), along with feeds and medicine, to the women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the village. The distribution event was attended by the Village Council Chairman and various stakeholders, marking a significant step toward integrating livelihood support with conservation goals.

“The motive behind this initiative is that the Conservation and Livelihood cannot be separated when conservation effort is at its accelerating speed, Livelihood measures and opportunity has to be persued in equal measures,” an update received here stated.

The village community in general and the committee in particular expressed thanks and appreciation to the Forest Department and the Wildlife Division, Dimapur in particular for their sincere effort and guidance forwards conservation.
