Following the quashing of the Mongsenyimti village resolution on consensus candidate and the directive issued by the High Court to take action against Mongsenyimti Riongsanger Putu Menden, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh IAS told Mokokchung Times that he had come across the news on Friday morning and received the court order only in the evening.

“I am still going through the High Court copy and it has been learnt by me that I have to reply back to the High Court about what actions have been taken within three weeks,” he said.

“We still have time. I am examining the case; I will discuss with the certain stakeholders, particularly the security and law enforcement agencies and will take appropriate action,” he added.

The Gauhati High Court on its January 31 judgement has quashed the resolution adopted by the Mongsenyimti Riongsanger Putu Menden and the Mongsenyimti Senso Mungdang to endorse the candidature of former minister Tongpang Ozukum as the lone candidate from the village to contest for the 24-Angetyongpang A/C in the upcoming election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
