The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Tuesday concluded its six-day humanitarian air operation in Nagaland, airlifting 6.85 metric tonnes of essential relief materials and evacuating 64 stranded people from flood-hit areas of Longleng district.
On the final day of operations, two IAF helicopters transported relief supplies to EAC Headquarters Namsang and Tamlu Headquarters while evacuating stranded residents, including students and patients, from Tamlu and Longleng to Dimapur.
The first helicopter delivered 1.80 metric tonnes of relief materials to Namsang before proceeding to Tamlu, where it successfully landed and evacuated 22 stranded passengers to Dimapur Airport. After returning to Dimapur and loading an additional 1.70 metric tonnes of relief supplies, it undertook another sortie to Tamlu, delivering the materials and evacuating 19 more passengers.
In its fourth sortie, the helicopter transported the remaining 1.85 metric tonnes of relief materials to Tamlu. With no stranded passengers left there, it proceeded to Longleng and evacuated 23 people, including one child, to Dimapur.
The second helicopter delivered 1.50 metric tonnes of relief materials to Namsang before returning to Mohanbari Airport in Assam after completing its permissible flying hours for the day.
According to the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), a total of 3.30 metric tonnes of relief materials were airlifted to EAC Headquarters Namsang and 3.55 metric tonnes to Tamlu Headquarters on Tuesday.
With the completion of the sixth day of operations, the IAF also completed the airlifting of all essential relief materials earmarked for the two locations, bringing the humanitarian mission to a close. Although the helicopters were formally demobilised on Tuesday, they remained at Dimapur overnight after the final sortie concluded after 5 pm and are scheduled to return to their respective bases on July 29.
Over the course of the six-day operation, the IAF ensured the uninterrupted delivery of essential relief supplies and the safe evacuation of stranded residents from flood-affected areas despite adverse weather conditions and difficult terrain.
The Government of Nagaland expressed gratitude to the Indian Air Force for its “exemplary professionalism, unwavering commitment and timely humanitarian assistance,” stating that the operation significantly strengthened the state’s disaster response and brought timely relief to affected communities.
