Nagaland has received an additional Rs 183.65 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) during the 2025-26 financial year, the Ministry of Home Affairs informed Parliament on Tuesday.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, said the assistance was released to support disaster relief in the State following the Centre’s assessment of disasters qualifying as being of a “severe nature”.
Apart from the additional NDRF assistance, Nagaland was allocated Rs 44.80 crore under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for 2025-26, including the Centre’s and the State’s share. The Centre has released Rs 40 crore as its contribution.
The State has also been allocated Rs 11.20 crore under the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF), of which the Centre has released Rs 10 crore. In addition, Rs 27.24 crore has been released under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NMDF).
The Ministry said disaster response remains primarily the responsibility of state governments, while the Centre provides financial assistance through the SDRF and extends additional support from the NDRF after assessment by an Inter-Ministerial Central Team.
The reply also showed that Nagaland had received Rs 181.81 crore in additional NDRF assistance during 2024-25, slightly lower than the allocation for the current financial year.
On disaster mitigation, the Ministry said Nagaland is among the states covered under the National Landslide Risk Mitigation Project, although the first instalment has so far been released only to Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur and Sikkim.
The State has also received the first instalment under the Forest Fire Risk Management Mitigation Scheme and is included in the National Project for Strengthening Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction Initiatives in Panchayati Raj Institutions.
