The Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) conducted the final draft review meeting for the research study titled “Strategic Interventions for Endogenous Development through Export Promotion of Niche Agriculture Products, Advancement of Creative Economy, and Investment Diversification in Nagaland.” The study began in January 2025 with financial and technical support from NEDFi under its Techno Economic Development Fund (TEDF).
The research examined three major development areas, namely the potential of niche agricultural products, opportunities within the creative economy, and possibilities for investment diversification across emerging sectors such as tourism, hospitality, eco enterprises and renewable energy.
IDAN stated that the initiative functions as a sample baseline study to understand sectoral dynamics, identify gaps and explore new pathways for economic growth. The findings indicated the need for more detailed studies within individual sectors to support evidence based planning and program formulation.
The review meeting was attended by the TEDF team, including Olee Bora, General Manager and Member Convenor, Dharmindra Bortamuly, Manager, and Kamal Saikia, Assistant.
Members of the Internal Study Committee and several domain experts also participated, including Dr Akali Sema of Nagaland University who attended in person, as well as virtual reviewers Kaushik Raj Hazarika, Dr Joydeep Baruah, Shiladitya Sarkar and Dr Vincent Darlong. Stakeholders from allied departments, including the Element Project under the Agriculture Department, the Department of Horticulture and the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) were also present, along with research partner Educentre School of Business.
The meeting was chaired by I Changsang, Under Secretary and Chairman of the IDAN Internal Study Committee. He acknowledged the support of NEDFi in enabling the research and said the study has laid the foundation for diversification of investments, including the development of frameworks for Public Private Partnership and Community Private Public Partnership models. He added that IDAN looks forward to receiving structured recommendations from departments and stakeholders to jointly build strategies for scaling the agriculture and creative sectors.
Participants from government, academic and technical institutions shared suggestions for refining the report and improving its policy alignment. Stakeholders expressed strong support for the initiative and described it as an important step toward generating evidence based inputs for policy formulation and strategic development interventions. The final report will incorporate expert feedback and sector specific recommendations to support sustainable livelihoods, export oriented growth and inclusive economic development in Nagaland.
