Invites tribal apex bodies for consultation

 

The State Government is of the view that there is an immediate need for taking all necessary steps for protecting the rich cultural heritage of the Nagas in the form of our attires, designs and motifs and ornaments and prevent its misuse as well as to secure the economic benefits arising out of their usage for the Naga people.

 

 

This was stated in a communication circulated by Kekhrievor Kevichusa, Commissioner & Secretary, Government of Nagaland while inviting tribal apex bodies to a consultative meeting to be held on May 23 at CapitalConvention Centre, Kohima. The government has invited 2 members each from the tribal apex bodies and apex women organizations.

 

 

“In line with this, the State Government has recently notified a Committee headed by the Chairman, Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd., as the Chairperson and consisting of Departmental Officials and experts in the field to oversee the proper documentation of Naga Traditional Attires, Designs, Motifs and Ornaments,” the circular read.

 

 

“As a start, the Committee would like to hold a Consultative meeting with all the Apex Tribal bodies of all Naga Tribes and other stakeholders in order to formulate proper guidelines and propose a working model so that the documentation is carried out in a timely manner and to the satisfaction and benefit of all Tribes/stakeholders involved,” it said
