Mission LiFE-led campaign mobilizes nationwide action for sustainable living and plastic-free future
The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change today launched a nationwide mass mobilisation campaign, ‘One Nation, One Mission: End Plastic Pollution,’ in the run-up to World Environment Day 2025.
“This campaign highlights India’s unwavering commitment to environmental protection and sustainability, aligned with India’s flagship initiative – Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment),” an official release stated.
Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, while launching a pre-campaign video, urged everyone to move from awareness to collective action by embracing sustainable living to end plastic pollution.
World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5, serves as the principal platform of the United Nations for encouraging global awareness and action for environmental protection. The Mission LiFE theme, ‘Say No to Single Use Plastic,’ reinforces the message of this year’s WED celebrations.
According to the release, the key thrust areas of the campaign include awareness and advocacy regarding plastic pollution; reducing the use and generation of plastic waste, including single-use plastics; managing plastic waste through segregation, collection, disposal, and recycling; and promoting the development of sustainable alternatives to single-use plastic.
Campaign activities and engagement
The campaign leading up to World Environment Day 2025 focuses on raising awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution and encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives. Its goal is to inspire more sustainable lifestyles through community education, behaviour change, and innovation in green materials.
Activities will take place across Central Ministries, State and Union Territory governments, local bodies, educational institutions, industries, civil society, and community groups. These include awareness drives via social media, street plays, public pledges, and competitions, as well as clean-up efforts at beaches, parks, riversides, and other public places.
Workshops and webinars will promote sustainable practices, while educational programs will engage students through art, exhibitions, quizzes, and games focused on plastic reduction. Local community groups, municipal bodies, and cooperatives will also participate in waste segregation and recycling initiatives.
All stakeholders are encouraged to align their efforts with the campaign theme and share their activities on the ‘Meri LiFE’ portal, fostering a nationwide movement toward sustainable living.
