Swachhata Hi Seva is a prelude to Swachh Bharat Diwas which is observed on Gandhi Jayanti as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

Speaking at the launching program organized by the Dimapur Municipal Council, Tovihoto Ayemi said Dimapur, over the years, has seen a lot of improvement in terms of cleanliness but still has a lot to do to make it a garbage free city and for which every single citizen has got a role to play to desist from rampant throwing of garbage and littering the places.

The present surge of dengue cases in Dimapur, Tovihoto said, was because the surroundings are not kept clean thus giving space for dengue causing mosquitos to breed and such diseases would continue to threaten the society even in the days to come unless the citizens inculcate the sense of responsibility towards keeping respective areas/surroundings clean and hygienic.

He said one cannot solely depend on the sweepers or the Dimapur Municipal Council alone but it should be the collective responsibility of all the citizens to keep the city garbage-free.

In his concluding remarks, the Advisor expressed hope that every citizen would re-dedicate themselves to the cause of Swachhata to ensure themselves a healthy mindset and healthy living in a healthy environment.

The Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal delivered the keynote address and read out the pledge of the campaign. The Administrator of DMC W Manpai Phom proposed the welcome address while Mhonjan, president, Team Better Dimapur delivered a message on the importance of cleanliness.
