Mokokchung, 17 December (MTNews): The Centre has officially confirmed the presence of the JN.1 subvariant of Covid-19 in a patient from Kerala, marking the first documented case of this subvariant in India. This revelation comes amid a notable surge in COVID cases across the state, with Kerala currently reporting the highest number of cases in the country—1,324 cases in total.

The confirmation of the latest COVID-19 subvariant, JN.1, was made in a resident of Thiruvananthapuram. Fortunately, the patient is reported to be in stable condition, according to the latest health updates.

State Health Minister Veena George addressed the public, assuring them that there is no need for panic. She emphasized that the situation is under close surveillance, with specific attention directed towards patients with comorbidities.

Simultaneously, the Union Health Ministry has affirmed its commitment to monitoring the situation. In an official statement, the ministry stated that it is maintaining constant communication with the State Health Department and overseeing all necessary measures to address and contain the potential impact of the JN 1 subvariant in Kerala.
