In response to the unfortunate events that transpired on 18 May 2024, the Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) has issued a statement echoing the sentiments expressed by the Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO). The AYO demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and appropriate legal repercussions for those responsible in accordance with the law of the land.

The incident in question involves the assault on Kezhalelie Lawrence Miasalhou and his son, Thejavizo Miasalhou, resulting in the tragic demise of the former. Neizosetuo Kire and Khriestsonyü Whuorie have been identified as the perpetrators of this grievous act, sparking outrage among citizens of all ages.

Expressing deep sympathy and solidarity with the bereaved family, the AYO also conveyed its gratitude to the family members of Lt Kezhalelie Lawrence Miasalhou and the Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO) for their magnanimity and understanding shown at this crucial juncture in the pursuit of justice.

The International Human Rights Council (IHRC), Nagaland State Board also condemned the alleged murder stating, “Such discourteous manner by individuals linked with a profession respected by the society has brought disgrace and shame to the entire wrestling community.”

The IHRC Nagaland also said that the incident has stained the image of the capital city of the state, where an elderly community leader was manhandled and later succumbed to injury.

“It has indeed created an environment where people feel unsafe and uneasy to raise their voice towards public nuisance, for it was the reason for the delay. Kezhalelie Lawrence Miasalhou had to lose his life,” it added.

The council sought a fair trial and suitable punishment to the culprits and demanded justice for the victim’s family while expressing their deepest condolences to the family.
