“What I would like to know is how are the eateries and restaurants managing their take-aways. My past experience of take-aways in Mokokchung was lots of single use plastics and aluminum foil products,” an outstation citizen of Mokokchung asked.

“The government office premises should be made plastic-free before enforcing it anywhere else,” another citizen observed. “The periphery of the town beyond the jurisdiction of MMC should be strictly monitored,” another one suggested.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung had on the eve of the ban issued a notification informing that the District administration and Sub-Divisional Administration/Urban Local Bodies shall decide and levy penalties against the defaulters in their respective jurisdiction.

The district head has also notified that a District Task Force has been constituted to strictly monitor and function as “Squad for vigilance purposes.” It appears that Mokokchung is prepared to implement the ban but it remains to be seen if it is ready to go the distance. Is Mokokchung ready for the Single Use Plastic ban?
