Following an executive council meeting of the Confederation of Nagaland Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) on Friday, the business body shared three resolutions adopted in the meeting with media persons.

In the first resolution, the CNCCI demanded that the Nagaland government clarify if the taxing of the business community by the 18 factions is ‘legal or illegal in their eyes’ and asked them to make a decision.

The confederation also stated that if the state government deems the taxation to be illegal, they must direct the factions to cease taxing; if they find it to be legal, the confederation requests that the state government stop taxing the business community.

The confederation also stated that if any untoward incident befalls the business community or any CNCCI member, the whole business community in the entire districts across the state will stand together.

In the second resolution, the confederation requested that the state government prohibit random checking of shops by unauthorized organizations, associations, or individuals and that the state form a committee with competent authority.

The confederation demanded that a committee headed by a food safety officer or an administrator with a CNCCI member and a police officer be formed in all districts and towns, stating that no one is legally authorized to verify the items in the shops and that there are specific procedures to deal with products such as “expired products.”

Third, the confederation highlighted the issue of ‘multiple authority’ and requested that the state define who is in control. The confederation stated that they are puzzled about who is the authority because different laws are imposed on them by the different 18 factions and a different legislation by the state government.

The confederation stated that there must be a system and that the state government must answer the “uncomfortable question of who is in charge” of dictating the business community, and that if the state is in charge, they must repudiate everything else.

At the same time, the confederation recommended citizens to begin valuing the coins. According to the confederation, the coin is applicable and valuable throughout the country except in Nagaland, and so urged people not to be afraid to ask for their change back, even if it is coins. The confederation also stated that they will educate the public about this and have requested the people to educate one another.
