Mokokchung, March 2 (MTNews): After failing to make a berth in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly for the second time in a row, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) said today that it is another sad day for the Congress party.
The result of election to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly was declared today where the NPDD-BJP alliance emerged victorious while the Congress did not win a single seat despite fielding 23 candidates.
“It is another sad day for all Congressmen, women and well-wishers for which I apologize for the weaknesses and shortcomings,” NPCC president K Therie stated in a press release after the results declaration.
“In the past five years, despite of our nil presence in the state Assembly, we have been upholding the interests of the people which we thought were important for Nagaland but we found ourselves to be alone,” Therie added.
Therie said that the Congress party gave an election manifesto wherein they promised to change Nagaland but regretted that it was “rejected by the majority.”
The NPCC also congratulated the BJP but did not mention the NDPP. The Congress president also stated that he has “mixed feelings” about the results. “Once again we congratulate BJP and alliance for receiving absolute mandate of the people although I have mixed feelings on whether it is the verdict of EVMs or that of the people,” he said.
Therie also stated that the verdict is also against the civil society who were protesting for solution and also claimed that it has “weakened Christian society before the world.”
