Jakin Kandha, a music enthusiast hailing from Assam, has on 11 August dropped his cover of Tiameren Aier’s song titled ‘Ni Aluyimer Ka’. This musical endeavor reflects his deep affection for Ao Naga songs.

Adding a special layer to this story is Kandha’s profound connection with Mokokchung, where he spent his formative years in the Artang ward and attended the Christian Residential Higher Secondary School. His educational journey led him to Nagaland Bible College, where he pursued theological studies.
Reflecting on his 22 years in Mokokchung, Kandha warmly acknowledges the role played by Dr Sentila Jamir, the Principal of Nagaland Bible College. Dr Jamir’s nurturing influence and care resonated with Kandha, who likens her to a maternal figure, responsible not only for his education but also for his overall well-being, encompassing health, schooling, college life, and numerous other aspects.
Although Kandha’s father, a devoted pastor and missionary, has passed away, his mother, Esther, continues to serve as his unwavering pillar of support.
Kandha’s decision to cover the song ‘Ni Aluyimer Ka’ was catalyzed by a fellow non-Naga artist’s rendition of the track ‘Yamai Tang Linuali’, a performance that left a significant impact on him. Inspired by this, he embarked on his own version, infusing it with his distinctive style.
With the collaborative efforts of some close friends, Kandha familiarized himself with several Ao songs and began sharing his musical expressions on his YouTube channel (@Jakin KD). He said that he records and mixes his songs through his phone itself as he could not afford studio recording and laptop or DAW or other equipment.
Despite receiving an influx of critical comments, this endeavor proved successful. Kandha’s enduring affection for the Nagas, however, served as the driving force that sustained his efforts.
“I want to thank all those who offered corrections to my pronunciation,” he said.
