Jubilee Memorial College (JMC), Mokokchung, organised an HIV/AIDS awareness flash mob at five locations in Mokokchung town on September 29 to promote HIV prevention, testing, treatment and support, while addressing stigma and discrimination.
Held under the theme “Know, Test, Treat, Support”, the campaign began at the college and moved to Police Point, MMC Complex, Public Ground Area and Sewak Gate Area. Through dance, drama and awareness messages, the students presented information on HIV in a youth-oriented format.
Fourteen students and three faculty members participated in the campaign, which organisers estimated reached around 500 to 600 people across the different locations.
The campaign highlighted the importance of informed choices and early testing for timely diagnosis and treatment, as well as the role of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) in helping people living with HIV lead healthy and productive lives.
The students also sought to dispel misconceptions about HIV transmission, emphasising that the virus is not spread through casual contact such as shaking hands, hugging, sharing food or sitting together. They urged the public to rely on accurate information and treat people living with HIV with dignity and respect.
The participating faculty members were Dr Chubaienla Imchen, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics; Molongnenla Pongen, Assistant Professor, Department of History; and Yimnayanger Aier, Counsellor.
