Jubilee Memorial College, Mokokchung celebrated World Earth Day by organizing a seminar on the theme “Invest in our planet” and a plantation drive with Dr. Sentitula, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Mokokchung as the resource person. The event was organized by the Department of Environment Science in collaboration with NSS, JMC.
Addressing the students of JMC on the theme ‘Invest in our planet’, Dr. Sentitula talked about the environmental problems and environmental degradation that poses a threat to mother earth. She talked about maintaining a balance between extremes of ecology and economy, conservation and development, protection and people’s needs, global issues and local issues, intergenerational and immediate. She stressed on the role of individuals in saving mother earth and focused on what an individual can do at the global and local level with bigger interest in the local level.
The resource person along with the principal, Dr.Imtiwati Jamir and vice-principal, Akumyala, JMC and NSS volunteers planted and adopted a tree each commemorating the day.
