Jubilee Memorial College (JMC), through its Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organised a one-day seminar on research project preparation, research grants, artificial intelligence (AI), open access and research integrity on November 4.

The seminar, conducted in two sessions, brought together resource persons from Nagaland University to discuss research funding opportunities, proposal writing and ethical practices in academic research.
In the first session, Dr. Suraj Beri, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, Nagaland University, explained the differences between PhD research proposals and proposals for funded research projects. He outlined the essential components of a research proposal and the expectations of funding agencies.
Dr. Narendra Lamba, also from the Department of Sociology, discussed research grant application procedures, funding agencies, budgeting and common reasons for rejection. Drawing from his experience, he highlighted the requirements for preparing competitive grant applications.
The second session examined the role of AI and open access in academic research, with particular focus on responsible use of technology and maintaining research integrity.
Resource persons Dr. T. Temjen, Deputy Librarian; Dr. Chanlang Ki Bareh, Assistant Librarian; and Er. Ochentsungba Ozukum, Information Scientist, from Nagaland University, Lumami, discussed initiatives such as One Nation One Subscription (ONOS), the OpenAlex bibliographic database and the ethical use of AI in literature searches.
The discussions also covered copyright compliance, data privacy, plagiarism and the limitations of AI detection tools. The resource persons emphasised that technology should complement rather than replace independent critical thinking and human judgement in academic research.
In his welcome address, JMC Principal Dr. Imtiwati Jamir highlighted the importance of research in academia and the relevance of the seminar’s themes.
The first session was moderated by Tsungrosenla Jamir, with Shisachila Imchen as rapporteur, while Molongnenla and Phalneihoi Thepfusono Hangsing served as moderator and rapporteur respectively in the second session.
