District Planning Officer (DPO) Peren, Danyi Domeh, has claimed that jungle burning in Peren district has been effectively controlled, attributing the improvement to stricter enforcement and public cooperation.

Domeh said the Peren District Planning and Development Board had declared the district headquarters a “Green District Headquarters”, banning hunting, fishing and jungle burning. Recalling the situation a year ago, he said widespread jungle fires had caused extensive environmental and economic damage.

“A year ago, Peren district witnessed massive jungle burning, which caused significant damage to the environment and economy,” he said.

According to Domeh, no major incidents of jungle burning have been reported in the district in 2026. He credited Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru’s efforts in biodiversity conservation and environmental protection for the positive change. He also noted that more than 10 truckloads of illegally transported timber without valid transit permits had been intercepted.

Appealing for continued cooperation, Domeh urged town councils, NGOs, civil society organisations, village councils, students’ unions, youth groups and the public to support efforts to prevent jungle burning and protect the environment.
