In a shocking development, the deputy leader of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), Kilonser Khampei Opeiham Konyak, has been reportedly assassinated by unidentified assailants in Tizit, Mon district of Nagaland.

According to sources, Konyak was at his residence when a group of six unidentified miscreants forcibly entered his home and allegedly shot him. Despite efforts to rush him to the hospital, the NSCN-IM leader tragically succumbed to his injuries.

The Tizit police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Initial reports suggest that Konyak was planning to travel to Dimapur to seek additional security measures. He was in the company of his family when the assailants arrived at his residence and opened fire.

Eyewitnesses have revealed that Khampei Konyak sustained two gunshot wounds to the head and one to the chest, indicating the severity of the attack.

Konyak was a member and chairman of Konyak region, NSCN-K until he switched allegiance to NSCN-IM in October, 2023 along with other cadres including CCM Lempha Wangsu, Leacy Aleam Wangnao, among others.
