Dimapur, 24 August (MTNews): The Dimapur District Basketball Association (DDBA) will host the Dimapur leg of the Khelo India Asmita Women’s League 3×3 basketball tournament from 30-31 August at the JV Foundation Basket Court, Signal, Dimapur. The Asmita Women’s League is a program under Khelo India to promote sports among women in India, DDBA president Sentiningsang Longkumer stated in a press on Thursday.
In association with Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Basketball Federation of India, the league aims to increase the participation of women in sports by organizing various leagues, to utilize the leagues as a platform for Identification of new talents and evaluation of existing Khelo India athletes and to provide competition exposure to women athletes of different age categories across the country.
The Dimapur leg of 3×3 basketball tournament is part of a 50-cities program overseen by the Basketball Federation of India and its associate members across India. The Dimapur leg will carry a League cash prize of Rs 15000 for the winners, Rs 7500 for the runners up and Rs 2,000 for the MVP.
Meanwhile, it was also informed that Dimapur District Basketball Association is also looking for partners and sponsorships from organizations that work for women empowerment for this league to uplift girl athletes in the state.
