Khriehu Liezietsu, MLA launched Khelo India Centre Football (Boys) at IG stadium Kohima on 7th May 2022. Exhorting the gathering, Khriehu said football is a game that every Naga loves, and Nagaland has produced some very good players in the past and the State has even done reasonably well in the recent past.

According to Khriehu, Nagas are finding it a little difficult to cope with the competitiveness of the sports, and professionalism has taken over. “Players and sports administrators are very serious in their approach towards the game, every activity is now performance and success-oriented, this is one area I think we seriously need to focus on,” he added. Nonetheless, he expressed optimism and happiness that the youngsters are already catching up with this culture and with the setting up of Centers and programs like Khelo India, players will soon excel and be able to compete at the highest level.

He said the Department of Youth Resources & Sports as a whole is “alive and growing,” and, despite many challenges and hardships, the Department continues to give its best for the uplift of sports and the youth of the State.

Khriehu mentioned that it was encouraging to see lots of developments in Sports infrastructures and expressed happiness that the State Government was putting in a lot of effort in this field.
