Mokokchung, November 3 (MTNews): President Droupadi Murmu visited Kigwema village on her second day in Nagaland before departing to Mizoram on Thursday where Kigwema Village Council Chairman Balie Kere appealed to the President to fulfill the people’s desire for a National Standard Level Playground located between the Military Station and Kigwema Village.

Balie went on to say that the Kigwema Village is making a significant contribution to national security and integrity by donating 72.7% of its land and coexisting with Army and paramilitary forces stationed at Zakhama Military Station.

He also requested that NH-29, which connects Nagaland and Manipur, be upgraded to a four-lane road.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio emphasized how Kigwema is one of the largest villages and was also where the Japanese were stationed during WWII, hoping that the President takes back home fond memories.

Rio added that Mt. Japfü, Nagaland’s second highest peak, is located above the village and is a virgin forest with steep hills, but the village has a gentle slope with fertile land suitable for cultivating paddy, vegetables, and fruits.

He claimed that the village had won the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar for best village in 2021 and added that the village has 34 SHGs, mostly made up of women who have done well in vegetable and fruit cultivation.

The Women folk of Kigwema village presented folk songs while Central Brass Band, Nagaland Police, and the Government High School Kigwema presented the National Anthem.

Earlier, the President visited the Kohima War Cemetery to pay her homage to the soldiers buried there and also laid a wreath to show her honor and respect to the fallen heroes.
