The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) has raised concerns over the ongoing road metalling work between Sitimi and Seyochung, carried out by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). In a formal letter addressed to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kiphire, the SVSU expressed their dissatisfaction with the progress and quality of the roadwork.
The letter highlights that despite prior communication with the concerned department regarding expectations and concerns, the execution of the project has not met the community’s standards. “Despite having informed the concerned department prior to the commencement of the project regarding our expectations and concerns, there has been no visible seriousness in the execution of the work,” the SVSU stated in their letter.
The union emphasized that the roadwork appears to lack proper supervision, with no clear standard for the quantity or quality of the work. “The project lacks proper supervision, and there appears to be no standard in terms of quantity or quality,” the letter read. SVSU also pointed out that, even after raising concerns during the ongoing work, there has been no visible effort to address these issues. “Even during the course of the ongoing work, we have raised concerns and communicated the need for immediate attention. Regrettably, no concrete steps have been taken to address the issues raised.”
To further substantiate their concerns, the SVSU included photographs showing the current state of the roadwork. The union noted that the condition of the road had already started to degrade even before the completion of the project. “The road condition has degraded even before the project has been finished,” the SVSU lamented.
In closing, the SVSU urged the Additional Deputy Commissioner to take prompt action against the observed irregularities in the construction. “We request your good office to take this matter seriously and initiate appropriate action against the irregularities observed in the road construction. The people of the area deserve a proper and safe road, and any negligence in public works should not be tolerated,” the union concluded, hoping for swift action to rectify the situation.
