Kiphire, 11 March (MTNews): The only college in Kiphire district, Zisaji Presidency College (ZPC), has been in dire need of road connectivity, as reported by local media. The college, founded in 1997 and accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Nagaland University, caters to approximately 223 students.
Local media reports have spotlighted the lamentable state of the road, stating that it is impassable for light motor vehicles, forcing students to walk on foot, particularly during the rainy season.
It was also reported that despite persistent appeals and proposals from the college administration for the construction of a new road, the progress remains stalled. The current road, constructed in 2016 solely to facilitate the establishment of the college, falls woefully short of meeting the needs of the institution.
The college has two buses but, according to reports, it struggles to provide dependable transportation due to the arduous road conditions. It was reported that there was only one official bus driver and conductor, leaving the management of the second bus in the hands of the students themselves.
Adding to the challenges, the dormancy of the boys’ hostel due to the absence of a warden and Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) compounds the plight of the college. Meanwhile, the incomplete girls’ hostel has also placed an undue financial burden on students who are unable to afford alternative accommodations.
In response to these adversities, Project Constitutional Justice (PCJ) has extended its solidarity and unwavering support to the resilient students and dedicated staff of ZPC.
“It is disheartening to learn that despite numerous proposals for a new road, progress has remained elusive. We call upon authorities to prioritize the well-being of these aspiring minds and take prompt action to ensure a safe and accessible passage to education. Notably, the dedication of the college community shines through adversity. With limited resources, they manage the challenges posed by the inadequate road condition,” the PCJ stated.
Highlighting the incomplete boys’ hostel and the financial strain on students due to the incomplete girls’ hostel, PCJ emphasized that these additional burdens cast a shadow over the college’s potential. Urging stakeholders to expedite the resolution of these issues, PCJ emphasized the imperative of ensuring that the infrastructure aligns with the dreams and aspirations of the students.
“We implore all concerned parties to join hands in ensuring that the road to education is not obstructed by logistical challenges,” it added.
