The Kohima Excise team manning the Khuzama inter-state check gate seized 500 cases of assorted IMFL on October 15 at around 7:26 a.m.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Excise (Zonal), Kohima, Venezolu Dawhuo, the check gate duty party intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number NI-01AK-1796 during routine vehicle inspection. Upon thorough checking, the team recovered 500 cases of assorted IMFL, which were neatly concealed under bags of essential commodities.
The driver of the vehicle, Rashidul Islam, 20, son of Md. Siddique and a resident of Golpara District, Assam, was apprehended for violation of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act. A case has been registered against him under the relevant sections of the NLTP Act 1989.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused allegedly loaded the consignment from Dimapur and was supposed to deliver it to Imphal.
The excise officials have stated that further investigations are underway to trace the source and intended distribution of the seized consignment.
